SMESA Attended APEC SMEWG in Indonesia, Sharing Best Practice Cases of PPP Together with Taiwanese Enterprise

Deputy Director-General Wu Chia-ying of the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA), Ministry of Economic Affairs led a delegation to attend the 57th APEC Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia, from April 24th to 25th. Gogolook Co., Ltd. joined the meeting along with the delegation, and shared how the public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism has increased startup opportunities in the international market.

In the Government to Business Interaction session, Mr. Ian Huang, the Chief Financial Officer of Gogolook, shared the company s best practices, highlighting how startups can progress from the seed stage to the initial public offering with government funding support. Mr. Huang indicated that Gogolook provides digital solutions for anti-fraud. The company was grateful for receiving resources provided by the government, which formed the foundation for its early-stage business development. Through collaborative investments of National Development Fund and private funds, mentorship, and the assistance of corporate governance, startups can thrive and industries can innovate. Currently, Gogolook has partnered with law enforcement agencies in Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia to combat fraud internationally. On the achievement of public-private partnership, the Chair of the SMEWG, Mr. Aaron Sydor, responded that Taiwan s practice is innovative and constructive.

The SMESA noted how Taiwan s outstanding digital technology can contribute to innovative product- and service-based tech startups. Additionally, SMESA highlighted government efforts to foster startup development by providing proving grounds, networks, and funding to support startup growth.

At the APEC meeting, we additionally addressed the APEC economies on the ways SMESA has successfully integrated SMEs into global value chains. The APEC platform has increased domestic enterprise exposure to the international stage, which we expect to generate increased business opportunities abroad.
