The A3025 Portsmouth Road corridor in Southampton was identified by the Department for Transport as one of the top 50 highest accident and risk A-roads in England. The Council subsequently submitted to the Government proposals for safety improvements along Portsmouth Road from the city boundary to the City Centre.
The measures are proposed to include:
The improvements will be progressed in consultation with the local community via public perceptions surveys and information drop-in sessions. The improvements will aim to start in Winter 2023.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, Councillor Eamonn Keogh, comments:
"I am really pleased that we have been successful in this funding and I'm looking forward to working closely with the local community on these improvements. The stretch of road along the A3025 Portsmouth Road is one of the busiest routes into Southampton and this funding will be essential for making journeys safer for all."
