Dan Pitts, Class of 1995, Passes Away at 88

Dan Pitts was one of Georgia's most winningest coaches in high school football. The Lincolnton-born was best known as the coach for the Mary Persons Bulldogs for 36 seasons. His teams had 29 straight winning seasons including 13 region titles, 4 South Georgia Titles, and a state championship in 1980.

Dan's overall record was 325-105-4. He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and retired from coaching in 1997. At the time of his retirement, he was GHSA's top football coach with the most overall wins. Mary Persons High School honored Dan by naming their stadium after him. He passed away Tuesday, April 20, at the age of 88.
