Virtual Speech: Use Virtual Mock Interview Software for Tang

Summer break is almost upon us, and with it comes many new career opportunities. Summer jobs and internships are about to begin and a solid interview can set you apart from other candidates. However, it is difficult to master the art of putting your best foot forward. Luckily, the Career Center at Seton Hall is here to help! You can practice your interview skills with the Virtual Speech mock interview software, so when the time comes for the real interview, you will know that you are ready.

One of the difficulties in preparing for an interview is figuring out what specifically you need to improve upon. Is it your body language? Producing answers in a timely manner? Rate of speech? The Virtual Speech software aids you by tracking all of this and more.

This software provides users with statistics once their session is over about their rate of speech, posture, eye contact and vocal pauses, as well as the opportunity to listen back to the answers they provided. Being able to see this data, you can pinpoint specific areas to focus on as you practice and enhance your skills.

This tool is customizable from user to user. Select how many interviewers you speak with, the types of questions you would like to focus on, or even input your own questions if you had specific questions you would like to practice.

Virtual Speech can be used for more than mock interviews. Users have the option to walk through exercises that practice how to deal with tough situations such as sexual harassment, discrimination and other hard conversations that may happen in the workplace.

This resource came to Seton Hall in summer 2023 and students can set up an appointment to use it through Compass. When on Compass, schedule an appointment with the Career Center and select the 'VR/Mock interview' option.

For your appointment, arrive at the Career Center (Bayley Hall, Room 209). You will work with the Career Center Coordinator who will help you get acclimated before beginning your virtual practice. From then, you have an hour-long session to strengthen your interview skills. Within one appointment you have strengthened your interview skills and are more prepared to put your best foot forward in the actual interview.
