Tickets on sale now: Regenerative Agriculture Conference 2023

Tickets are now available for the upcoming Regenerative Agriculture Conference 2023 being held in Margaret River this September.

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River (Shire) has partnered with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) to deliver the two day conference held at the Margaret River HEART. The conference will be complemented by full day, hands-on workshops and a range of field trips visiting farming enterprises around the Margaret River Region.

This convergence will feature international, national and local keynote speakers addressing the most promising farming approaches for producing healthy food, building soil carbon, increasing biodiversity and gaining resilience to climate change.

Keynote speakers include renowned farmers and agronomists who are experts in their fields including Matthew Evans, Gabe Brown (USA), Dr Judi Earl, Rowan Reid, Grant Sims, and homegrown legends Di and Ian Haggerty. The conference will be MC'd by RegenNarration podcast's Anthony James.

Sustainable Economy Officer Saul Cresswell said there will also be a host of soil scientists, researchers and experienced farmers presenting case studies on their approaches, successes, challenges and outcomes.

"This is a really exciting convergence of experienced farmers - many of them with international followings - plus researchers and soil scientists presenting case studies on their work. We'll get to learn from their successes and challenges, and what the on-ground outcomes of their unique approaches have been," Mr Cresswell said.

Bonnie Jupp, Regenerative Agriculture Program Manager from Perth NRM | RegenWA said the conference complements the inaugural RegenWA conference held in 2019, which focused on raising awareness about what regenerative agriculture is and how it addresses challenges facing food security and natural systems.

"The Regenerative Agriculture Conference 2023 will allow us to identify the current state of play and will provide a great opportunity to showcase examples of innovative regenerative practices in our own backyard as well as further abroad," Ms Jupp said.

DPIRD Primary Industries Development Deputy Director General Cec McConnell said DPIRD's involvement with the conference would give researchers an excellent forum to engage with stakeholders about the opportunities for regenerative practices, learned experience on the land and share research findings on alternative farming practices.

"DPIRD is working to build knowledge about how regenerative farming systems can work in WA, through farming systems trials based at Merredin and analysis of businesses implementing regenerative agriculture practices, to better understand yield and profit drivers," Ms McConnell said.
