POSTPONED: Project on Missouri Route 163 in Columbia to now begin next week

Pavement repair to close one lane of Providence Road

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The scheduled start for a resurfacing project coming to Missouri Route 163 in Columbia has been moved to next week. The first part of the project, pavement repair, is now scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 30, 2024. At their December 2023 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded Capital Paving & Construction, LLC (Capital) a $5,506,594.12 contract to resurface 5.33 miles of Providence Road from Route K/Old Plank Road to Interstate 70.

Capital and their subcontractors now expect to start pavement repairs Tuesday night, April 30, in preparation for the asphalt resurfacing. Crews will begin on the south end of Providence Road, near Route K/Old Plank Road and progress north towards I-70. Work will continue nightly Monday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately 10 working days. Motorists should expect delays.

Following the pavement repair, crews plan to work on the concrete traffic barrier and guardrail before resurfacing begins in June. In addition, a right turn lane will be added at the intersection of northbound Providence Road and Veterans United Drive. The project is expected to continue through August.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
