May Reflections from the NAPE President, Mr. Elliot Ibie, FNAPE

Six months already! This present Executive Committee is half-way along in its stewardship to the Association. Noble strides so far but a lot more planned before the November 16th, 2023, change of baton.

Transition fever moved to the Warri Chapter in May as we witnessed a successful Chapter election and the Wilson Osung-led leadership team handed over to Prof. Juliet Emudianughe. Our newly-minted Professor of Geology (Double Congratulations!!) is staging a well-deserved comeback to the NAPE Executive Committee.
Our UK/Europe Chapter organized a well-attended Technical Meeting May 18th on "An Integrated Geological Evaluation of the relinquished OPL911 (Afikpo Area, Benue Trough), delivered by Aleksander Oshodi, an Independent Consultant.

The NAPE 2023 Election nomination period closed at the end of May after the Electoral Committee was granted a two-week extension. We look forward to the announcement of the candidates for election in August as per the published timetable.

The planning for this year's NAPE/NMGS Students' Conference scheduled to be held in September at the University of Lagos continued with the setting up of the Local Organizing Committee. This bi-annual showcase event promises to highlight the latest initiatives, ideas and innovations from the Ivory towers and there is palpable excitement ahead of this Conference.

In the same vein, preparations towards the November 12th to 16th continue in earnest and the various subcommittees hard at work to ensure a successful year-end event. Kudos to the President-Elect and coordinators for midwifing this process. We continue to reach out to volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors to help make this Conference another huge success.

Best Regards,

Elliot Ibie, FNAPE,
President, NAPE
