Voter Registration Deadline for Oregon’s Primary Election Approaches

Washington County Elections is reminding all residents that today, April 30, is the deadline to register, update or change your political party for the Primary Election held on May 21, 2024. Only voters affiliated with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party will receive a partisan ballot. Those who are not affiliated with a major political party will receive a ballot with the nonpartisan contests for this election.

Oregonians can register or update their voter information:

Reasons to update your voter registration status include:

  • Recent name change
  • Just turned 16 years old
  • Just became a U.S. Citizen
  • Recently moved

Registration cards must be postmarked by April 30, 2024, or submitted online tonight no later than 11:59 p.m. to be valid. Online registration requires a state driver's license, permit or other identification issued by the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division (DMV).

To register to vote in Oregon, you must be a U.S. citizen, an Oregon resident and at least 16 years of age. If you are not yet 18 years old, you will not receive a ballot until an election occurs on or after your 18th birthday.

Ballots will be mailed out by May 1, 2024. If you have not received your ballot by May 7, 2024, you can request a replacement by using the Ballot Request formor by contacting the Washington County Elections office at 503-846-5800. If you will be away from home during the May Primary Election, make sure you request an absentee ballot onlineby April 30, 2024. The post office won't forward your ballot from your home address, so you must request the absentee ballot be sent to your new location.
