Hiring: Zoning and Codes Officer

The Borough of Oxford is looking for a Zoning and Codes Officer to help shepherd the Borough into a new era of growth and vitality! This position will provide the right person a unique opportunity to shape and influence how the Borough develops as Southern Chester County continues to grow!

As the Route 1 corridor continues to grow, it is critical that we prepare for the pressures a changing Southern Chester County will place on Borough personnel, finances, and infrastructure. This includes a comprehensive approach to preparing for and managing growth. In the coming months, we will finalize and adopt the municipality's first Comprehensive Plan and are working to develop an Active Transportation Plan. Through a grant from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, we are just beginning a comprehensive update to the Borough's Subdivision and Land Development and Zoning Ordinances. Our new Zoning and Codes Officer will be coming in at just the right time to help develop the ordinances and processes that will shape the future of Oxford!

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Candidates must have considerable knowledge of matters involving zoning, land development, stormwater management, and property maintenance, and knowledge of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC). The candidate should have the ability to read engineering and architectural drawings and to interpret and enforce laws and codes. PA UCC Building Codes Official (BCO) certification or the ability to obtain within the first six months is required. A bachelor's degree in Zoning Administration, Land Use Planning, or related field, and 3 to 5 years of experience with municipal government and code enforcement is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience will be considered. Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid State of Pennsylvania Driver License. Experience with GIS platforms a plus.

The ideal candidate can: work independently; adapt to change; manage multiple projects and schedules simultaneously; exercise good judgement; make timely and informed decisions; and both collaborate with and lead colleagues. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Oxford's diverse constituencies is a must. Spanish language proficiency is desired, but not required.
