Ryan Woodruff named to lead Reclamation's Technical Service Center's Geotechnical Services Division

DENVER- The Bureau of Reclamation announced the selection of Ryan Woodruff, P.E., as chief of the Geotechnical Services Division at the Technical Service Center in Denver, Colorado. The Geotechnical Services Division provides integrated technical expertise in Geotechnical Design/Engineering, Engineering Geology and Geophysics, Seismology and Geomorphology, and Instrumentation. Woodruff will start his new position on March 24, 2024.

"The Technical Service Center provides unparalleled engineering and science services supporting Reclamation's mission delivering water and generating power to the West and meeting environmental needs," said Chief Engineer David Raff. "Ryan will continue the Technical Service Center's customer service focused activities and provide new and innovative leadership ensuring cost effective scientific and engineering solutions to western water needs."

"Ryan brings excellent geotechnical engineering, project management, and leadership skills to this position," said Technical Service Center Director Dick LaFond. "He has a sound understanding of the work performed by the Technical Service Center to support Reclamation's mission and has a passion for the work performed by the Geotechnical Services Division."

Woodruffjoined Reclamation in 2010 asa civil engineer in the Geotechnical Services Division and became the manager of the Geotechnical Design Group #1 in October 2016. During his Reclamation career, he has been a designer and team leader on several complex dam safety modification jobs, a senior engineer on several comprehensive reviews, a Dam Safety Advisory Team member, and a risk analysis facilitator. He was also the chairperson of the Technical Service Center's Project Management Steering Committee and oversaw development of many tools, templates, and processes as well as an update of Reclamation's Final Design Process.

Prior to Reclamation, Ryan was a civil engineer with Tetra Tech, where he managed dam rehabilitation and mining reclamation projects. In all, Ryan has more than 20 years of geotechnical engineering experience.

Woodruff was born in the California-Bay Area and moved to Colorado when he was 12 years old. Ryan has been in Colorado ever since, earning a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Colorado. Ryan has been a registered professional engineer since 2007 and is honored to have this opportunity to lead such a great group of people and credits his success at Reclamation to his co-workers, wife, and two children.
