Technology Ireland statement on the publication of the 'Framework on online electoral process information, political advertising and deceptive AI content'

April 25, 2024

Technology Ireland, the Ibec group representing the technology sector, welcomes the publication of the 'Framework on online electoral process information, political advertising and deceptive AI content' by an Coimisiún Toghcháin.

Una Fitzpatrick, Director of Technology Ireland, said "Technology Ireland welcomes the publication of a 'Framework on online electoral process information, political advertising and deceptive AI' as a demonstration of the constructive relationship between industry and an Coimisiún Toghcháin"

"We wish to thank an Coimisiún for their engagement with industry in preparing the framework. The establishment of an Coimisiún Toghcháin under the Electoral Reform Act 2022 was a welcome step in enhancing trust in the electoral process. Technology Ireland looks forward to continuing to engage with an Coimisiún - in particular during forthcoming electoral events"

"We welcome that the framework recognises and aligns with numerous measures including the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation, the AI Elections Accord and the European Commission's 'Guidelines on Systemic Risks for Electoral Processes".
