“It’s Okay to Be You: Lessons on Self-Love” Young Adult Author Discussion with Felipe J. Garcia

Teens are invited to celebrate Pride Month with a Young Adult Author Discussion featuring local author Felipe J. Garcia on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. in the Friends Room at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library.

In this discussion, Mr. Garcia will talk about his book, "In France," where readers meet Federico Valenzuela, a college student studying abroad in France. To escape his tiresome life, Federico breaks out on his own in search of the freedom and beauty he desperately seeks as a writer and poet. After arriving in Paris, Federico meets a series of people who will greatly impact his life and force him to unearth the secrets he's been hiding including his identity and sexuality. Readers will follow Federico on his journey of self-love and independence that will ultimately lead him to what he's been searching for all these years.

Felipe J. Garcia is a Mexican American queer writer, activist, and teacher from East Los Angeles, California, who conferred his MFA Degree from Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia. "In France" (2018) is his first novel. His second novel, "Salvador's Arrows" is currently set to be published in late 2022.
