Philately Liechtenstein presents a world novelty in stamps

On 19 December, Philately Liechtenstein presented a world first. With the purchase of the new, limited art edition, one acquires not only the physical stamp but also a numbered NFT and thus simultaneously becomes one of 1,500 virtual co-owners of an original Romero Britto painting.

The old cinema in Vaduz was filled to the brim on Monday when Philately Liechtenstein presented its new special stamp and at the same time unveiled the accompanying original painting by Romero Britto.

Limited special edition
This is already the fifth crypto stamp and concurrently the first NFT issued by Philately Liechtenstein. The product combines the classic stamp with an NFT and now also creates a unique bridge to the art world. With the purchase of the limited-edition NFT, each buyer is virtually assigned a section of the painting by internationally renowned neo-pop artist Romero Britto. "It is a special honour for us to have Romero Britto as our art ambassador and to have him design the original painting for this NFT art edition," says a delighted Roland Seger, Chief Executive Officer at Liechtensteinische Post AG. "Romero Britto has been a passionate stamp collector ever since he was a child and his colourful and positive artworks are a perfect fit for Philately Liechtenstein."

Revolution in the stamp world
The physical stamps of the Art Edition are produced in traditional steel engraving and at the same time build a bridge to the present: modern image processing technologies give each stamp an individual fingerprint that can be verified through our app. Once the corresponding forgery-proof QR code is scanned, it opens up the digital world behind the stamp. In addition to the NFT designed by Britto, one can find out which of four differently rare game figures is assigned to each stamp.

The special feature of this edition: Romero Britto has created a physical painting for the NFT which will be exhibited at the Liechtenstein National Museum by the end of March 2023. Each of the 1,500 NFTs is linked to a section of this original Britto painting. Buyers of the NFT will thus also be virtual owners to a section of this painting, which was created especially for this purpose. Each individual section of the painting is linked to exactly one NFT. "The owners of the stamp can then easily find out which of the 1,500 sections of the painting belongs to them. To do so, they simply have to use their mobile phone to scan the QR code next to the painting at the National Museum, and their individual section will be displayed digitally," explains Seger.

Limited art edition
The Art Edition is limited to 1,500 pieces and can be pre-ordered now. The issue date is 29 March 2023, the historic day on which Liechtenstein and Switzerland celebrate their joint customs treaty, which has bound the two countries in friendship for 100 years.

The Art Edition is displayed in a high-quality, handcrafted folder made of the finest bookbinding work with gold foil embossing. Included is: A stamp block with the image as a steel engraving:

• A numbered NFT with the original digital image of the painting by Romero Britto
• One of 1,500 sections virtually assigned to the physical painting by Romero Britto, which will be exhibited in the Liechtenstein National Museum
