Exhibit Details: FEMA ArtWorks Climate Resiliency, Photography and Storytelling Exhibition
This exhibition presents works from artists investigating and sharing the stories of communities and lands that are adapting to a changing climate. From sublime foreshadowing to documentation of the real ways natural hazards affect our lives; artists shine a light on resilient communities and their stories of loss, adaptation, mitigation, and restoration.
Roaring Fork Valley-based artist Tamara Susa's photographs utilize different times of exposure to underscore that climate change happens continuously and overtime; and though it may not be captured in a single series of photographs, it is omnipresent and we are all connected to the change.
Denver-based artist Bill Nelson's "Fragile" brings into frame the vulnerable lands to grab our attention. As we gaze through his steel viewfinder, we are encouraged to meditate on our role as stewards of the environment.
Colorado artist Emilie Upczak's film "Silt" invites us into personal and poetic methods of adaptation and resilience by highlighting familial, ancestral and contemporary strategies of responding, processing and grieving that which seems beyond our control, but necessary to face.
Making Waves for Great Salt Lake is a team of three artists, poets, educators, organizers, and Lake-facing humans who are passionate about creating intimacy and relationship with the Great Salt Lake, the creatures that call the Lake their home, and our connected waterbodies.
Salt Lake City-based artist Tiana Birrell's research investigates the copious amount of water and energy used by data centers in Salt Lake and Utah Valley. She uses photography, video, and projection to consider these questions as well as bring these invisible structures into visibility.
Warm Cookies of the Revolutions' Community Almanac Project explores wisdom passed down through generations in the community, focusing on a different social/civic issue in each volume. Volume 2 of our Community Almanac focuses on Climate & Trunk: A collection of wisdom/art/music/celebration from the Denver community dedicated to solutions to the climate crisis and grounding our work with each other.

Art Stroll is on Friday, September 6th, 2024! The store will be open late for the Art Stroll from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm; with the store being open until 10pm for shopping.
Our Featured Artist this month:
My name is Tarra, and I'm on a journey of rediscovery and connection that has led me to the creation of my small business combining some of the things I love most, art and teaching.
I'm a mom of three wonderful kids and I teach art lessons. My favorite things to teach are painting, pottery, and clay modeling. I make art kits for a wide variety of art projects and I create pottery from my home studio where I have a wheel to throw pottery on and a kiln to fire it.
Thank you for being part of my journey!
Tarra has some amazing things planned for the Art Stroll!
*She will have two new art kits.
-The first one will be for making a small pinch pot out of airdry clay.
-The second will be to make Christmas ornaments out of ovenbake clay.
*She will also have a display of the process of how to make pottery. The display will consist of clay in each step of the process, for example, a ball of clay, then a ball of clay with the hole in the center, then a ball of clay made into a cylinder, and so on until there is a finished pottery piece that has been glazed.
*Then if all of those amazing things were enough for you to get down to the Collective (which we are sure that they are), she has EVEN MORE! She will have holiday classes set up and have discount codes for those who sign up that day!!!! Now that is going to be awesome!
Find all of this happening in Classroom A and B.

Transcendence by Noelle Perry
This show titled "Transcendence" is a multi-series collection exploring themes of freedom, wholeness, moments of alignment, and being unbound by this world's physical and mental barriers. Using emphasized color, tessellated shapes, and balanced composition, Noelle hopes that her paintings will draw in and speak to the viewer. The 4 groups of paintings and themes shown in this exhibit are as follows:
EXPERIENCE HIM: This series consists of up-close imagery of faces, feet, and hands. This is Noelle's oldest series on display reaching as far back as 2014. These images explore the intimate closeness with our Creator and showcase moments of spiritual encounters and transformations.
WARRIOR WOMEN: This body of work explores the spiritual battle each are faced with as indicated numerous times in the Holy Scriptures. Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places." I like to portray strength and grace in these paintings while showcasing spiritual triumph.
CAVERNS: The paintings of caves are in part inspired by Hebrews 11:38 which states, "They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in CAVES and holes in the ground" referring to the many people of faith and prophets of old. Noelle resonates with not feeling "a part" of this world and finds solace in the idea of "residing in a cave" … And so figures "Why not make it a beautiful one at that?!" Noelle paints these scenes fully out of her mind and imagination with little to no photographic references.
LIBERATED: This series, often consisting of large flowers and feminine beings amongst the cosmos is yet to be concluded. This group of works explores the emotionally vulnerable side of existence and showcases relief from the heaviness of this present place presents. The feminine beings shown are often unbound by gravity and are in tender postures of surrender and/or rest. Noelle often works through and aims to make sense of, her own personal struggles through this series.
This exhibit will be on display through September 28, 2024.
