Media Release

For Immediate release

June 3, 2023

Since April of 2023 there has been an increase in crimes involving firearms in the South Oroville area. These crimes have included two homicides and two shootings involving serious injuries. The Oroville Police Department has been and continues to diligently investigate these crimes to bring those responsible to justice. These investigations have included numerous search warrants, forensic evidence collection and analysis, witness interviews, suspect interviews, and arrest when adequate evidence supports an arrest. I am confident that our Police Department will investigate these crimes to a successful outcome. I have been in close consultation with the City Administrator, Mayor Pittman and Council members to ensure adequate resources are available. All requested resources have been provided.

The staffing at the Police Department is increasing and new Officers will be deployed later this month. This new staffing will allow the Police Department to provide additional patrols to areas that are experiencing increased crimes of violence and will not result in a neglect of the entire community. Additionally, our Police Department is collaborating with other local law enforcement agencies to help investigate these crimes and the prevention of future crime.

I want to encourage those that may have witnessed or have information regarding these crimes to contact the Oroville Police Department and report the information. Crime in this community is something that will not be tolerated and those that commit those crimes will be aggressively pursued.
