Office of Neighborhood Vitality Hosts Annual Welcome to Garland Class

The Office of Neighborhood Vitality hosted 30 residents in its annual Welcome to Garland class April 6 at City Hall.

The class provided an opportunity to become better acquainted with what makes Garland a great place to live. Topics included City services, how tax dollars are being used and how to become involved.

While the participants included a 69-year resident and Tax Increment Finance board appointee Michael Landers, about a third in the class were relative newcomers who had lived in Garland for a year or less.

The class met Mayor Scott LeMay and other City Council members over coffee. They learned about how City government functions and got a breakdown of Garland's budget and departments - with a special presentation from the Water Department.

There was also a walking tour, featuring several Downtown businesses and the Garland Visitor Center. Participants came away with free samples, some City-branded items and a new perspective on their hometown.

We're already in the planning stages for the spring 2025 Welcome to Garland class. Keep an eye out for details and come join us!
