The King and Queen of Sweden travel to Yucatan to learn about Mexico's cultural heritage
  • They will also be shown the investment opportunities and areas of cooperation available in the state.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden will visit Merida, Yucatan from March 14-15 to learn about part of Mexico's cultural heritage and the contributions of our native peoples, and to meet with representatives of the native Maya and Yaqui peoples. They will also visit the archaeological site of Uxmal and meet with state authorities.

In Merida, the King and Queen of Sweden will be accompanied by Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Teresa Mercado Perez and the Mexican Ambassador to Sweden, Alejandro Alday Gonzalez. They will visit a historic hacienda where they will meet with Yucatan government officials. During the visit, the Swedish sovereigns will also be shown the investment opportunities available in the state, and other areas of cooperation.

King Carlos XVI Gustavo and Queen Silvia will visit the archaeological site of Uxmal, where they will be met by representatives of the native Maya and Yaqui peoples. Also present will be Secretary of Culture Alejandra Frausto Guerrero; the director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in Yucatan, Anna Goycoolea Artís; the Director General of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), Adelfo Regino Montes, and authorities from the Yucatan Institute for the Development of Maya Culture.

To conclude their activities in Yucatan, the delegation will visit another hacienda near Mérida, where they will have dinner with local authorities before returning to Mexico City the following day to continue their trip back to Stockholm.
