Oracle Academy Cloud Day helps students leverage Oracle APEX to build incredible apps using Oracle Cloud

The Oracle Academy Cloud Day, held on April 25, 2024, at the esteemed University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, centered around the theme, "Leveraging Oracle APEX to build incredible apps using Oracle Cloud." Facilitated by Oracle experts Marion Karanja, Principal Technology Solution Engineer, and William McCrae, Principal Instructor, Oracle Academy, EMEA, the event provided attendees with a unique opportunity to explore the transformative potential of Oracle APEX and Oracle Cloud. The activities included insightful presentations, interactive workshops, student discussions, and hands-on sessions.

Oracle Academy joined forces with the University of Dar es Salaam's College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), Oracle partner in Tanzania Dynatech Solutions, Serengeti Bytes, and the University's student-led Innovation Hub, UDICTI, to organize the event, which marked a significant milestone in advancing technology education and enabling innovation among students in Tanzania. Students from other esteemed institutions such as the University of Dodoma, St. Joseph University in Tanzania, Kampala University in Tanzania, the Open University of Tanzania, National Institute of Transport, Ardhi University, and Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, also joined the event for a day of knowledge and skills building.

Adding to the excitement, technology expert speakers from Oracle graced the workshop to share insights on Oracle's global philanthropic educational program, academic-industry collaboration importance in bridging the digital skills gap post-COVID, student success initiatives, and building career-ready skills in the era of cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science and beyond. This engagement with industry experts provided students with firsthand knowledge of the industry landscape and potential career pathways in the tech industry. The speakers included Danny Gooris, Regional Director, Oracle Academy; Janet Kamau, Marketing Director, Africa; Moses Mwangi, Public Sector Account Executive, East Africa; and Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Eastern Africa.

The Oracle Academy Cloud Day provided a platform for students to enhance their knowledge and skills in cloud computing and low-code application development. With a focus on leveraging technology to address community challenges, the workshop aimed to equip students with the skills needed to build scalable and secure applications using Oracle APEX running on an Oracle Cloud tenancy.

The University of Dar es Salaam's recent Institutional membership agreement with Oracle Academy has opened doors to teaching and learning opportunities for both faculty and students. Through the Oracle Academy Cloud Program, they can teach, learn, explore, build, and develop in the cloud, free of charge, empowering them to stay at the forefront of technological advancements.

"As an academic institution, we have embarked on a journey of challenge-driven learning where students demonstrate their capabilities while in study. The collaboration with Oracle Academy provides a skill-building platform and key resources to the students and faculty members to make that possible," stated Dr. Moses Ismail, lecturer and overall coordinator of the University of Dar Es Salaam ICT Innovation Hub, College of Information and Communication Technologies, University of Dar-es-Salaam.
