The winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, Peter Balakian, will talk about his book Black Dog of Fate, an autobiography about the Armenian genocide, and recite some poems in a talk on Tuesday 14 May at 7.00 p.m. at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona. This American writer of Armenian descent will address how his work has influenced generations, having written both poetry and memoirs about the Armenian genocide, and discuss how a past historical event can be transformed through the literary imagination.

The winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, Peter Balakian, will talk about his book Black Dog of Fate, an autobiography about the Armenian genocide, and recite some poems in a talk on Tuesday 14 May at 7.00 p.m. at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona. This American writer of Armenian descent will address how his work has influenced generations, having written both poetry and memoirs about the Armenian genocide, and discuss how a past historical event can be transformed through the literary imagination.

The session, under the title "Imagining the past: atrocity, trauma and the Armenian genocide", is organized by the UB's Faculty of Law, with the support of the Directorate General of Democratic Memory of the Government of Catalonia. The event is part of Més Poesia, as part of the Barcelona Poetry Festival.

Peter Balakian is the author of numerous books, including the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry winner Ozone Journal. Black Dog of Fate won the 1998 PEN / Martha Albrand Award. He has also published The burning Tigris. The Armenian genocide and America's response, which won the Raphael Lemkin Prize in 2005. Balakian has taught at Colgate University (New York) since 1980.
