John James Votes to Allow Drilling in Great Lakes

Today, Rep. John James voted against a bipartisan amendment that would block oil drilling and exploration in the Great Lakes.

James' decision to side with Big Oil comes at serious risk to his own district, the state of Michigan, and other Midwest communities who depend on a clean Great Lakes for recreation, drinking water, and economic security.

John James' campaign coffers are overflowing with cash from Big Oil and fossil fuel donors. James has benefited from over $1.5 million from the oil and gas industry and lobbyists.

• "Koch" PAC, Americans for Prosperity Action, spent $735,000 on James' failed 2020 senate run. Reminder: Koch Industries, one of the largest oil manufacturers in the world, was responsible for a disastrous pile up of petroleum in the Detroit River in 2013.

• In his failed 2020 senate election, James also took nearly $320,000 from the oil and gas industry, and an additional $17,000 from Koch Industries' PAC and employees.

• In 2022, "Koch" PAC AFP Action spent $316,000 on James, James took nearly $70,000 from the oil and gas industry, and accepted an additional $10,000 from Koch Industries' PAC and employees.

• In his failed 2018 senate election, James took more than $65,000 from the oil and gas industry and $1,600 from Koch Industries' employees.

"John James chose to put Michigan's Great Lakes at risk just to please his donors and Big Oil. James' blatant disregard for Michigan's environment and wellbeing is unacceptable, disqualifying and voters won't forget how quickly he sold them out for special interests."
