Department of Defense Spokesman Lt Col David Herndon provided the following readout:

On October 5th, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Dr. Colin Kahl, hosted Singapore Permanent Secretary for Defence, Chan Heng Kee, at the Pentagon for the 12th U.S.-Singapore Strategic Security Policy Dialogue.

During their meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the U.S.-Singapore defense relationship and discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including in defense modernization, cyberspace, and with regard to emerging challenges like climate change.

Both leaders exchanged views on the regional security environment and efforts to enhance deterrence, and Under Secretary Kahl stressed the need for a rules-based approach to security challenges in the Indo-Pacific. Under Secretary Kahl expressed appreciation for the regional access Singapore provides to U.S. forces, and both leaders reiterated commitment to expand joint training and bilateral force posture opportunities, while collaboratively addressing security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

The leaders closed the meeting by reiterating their commitment to supporting the security, stability, and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific, and to building an even more capable defense relationship that is based on a shared foundation of common interests and values.
