04/30/2024 - Open House to Share Neighborhood Centers Strategy Report

Open House to Share Neighborhood Centers Strategy Report

The public is invited to attend a digital open house with a presentation starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024 to learn about recommendations to support neighborhood centers in Olympia. The event will be held virtually, starting with a presentation from the report's authors, MAKERS Architecture and Urban Design. Participating community members will have the chance to ask questions of City staff and provide feedback. A link to the Zoom meeting is below and posted on the Engage Olympia Neighborhood Centers webpage, engage.olympiawa.gov/neighborhood-centers.

Neighborhood Centers are small walk, bike and transit-friendly business clusters within residential neighborhoods that serve the day-to-day retail and service needs of local residents and foster community interaction. Neighborhood centers are important to community-wide goals to increase walkability, reduce our carbon footprint, improve human health and foster neighborhood resiliency.

In 2022 and 2023 the City's consultant evaluated each of the neighborhood centers, talked to stakeholders, and conducted a market analysis. Now, City staff are sharing findings and gathering additional community input. The completed Neighborhood Centers Strategy Report will help inform an update to the City's Comprehensive Plan, Olympia 2045, currently underway.
