On Earth Day, Rep. Chu Praises Climate Corps Actions by President Biden

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, President Joe Biden announcedseveral new actions to stand up the American Climate Corps - an initiative modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps that will put more than 20,000 young Americans to work fighting the impacts of climate change. Beginning today, Americans can now apply to join the American Climate Corps through a newly launched website, ClimateCorps.gov, featuring nearly 2,000 positions located across 36 states, DC, and Puerto Rico. Additionally, a new interagency public private partnership - Energy Communities AmeriCorps - will place American Climate Corps members in priority energy communities across the country, the places that have powered our nation for generations.Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) introduced legislation in 2019, and again in 2021, to create a National Climate Service Corps within the AmeriCorps program.

Rep. Chu released the following statement:

"With today's Earth Day launch of ClimateCorps.gov and the Energy Communities AmeriCorps, President Biden has made key progress in fulfilling the vision of the American Climate Corps and placing 20,000 young people in career pathways in the growing field of clean energy conservation and climate resilience. It's so meaningful to have a climate action partner in the White House who will empower young people, providing them with education and training on climate change, disaster relief, and community needs. I look forward to reintroducing my National Climate Service Corps and Careers Network Act to strengthen this program even further and extend its benefits for generations. I encourage young people interested in climate careers to visit ClimateCorps.gov to determine what positions are available for them to apply to."
