MINOT, N.D. - Join Minot State University, Minot Public Schools, and Audubon Great Plains for the Plum River Native Prairie Dedication event on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m. during the Minot State 34th annual Spring Honor Dance and Powwow Celebration week.

The dedication is set, weather permitting, for the actual site of the Plum River Native Prairie: 501 Lincoln Avenue in Minot, the former site of Erik Ramstad Middle School. It is open to the public and snacks and music will be shared.

"Your presence at this event would mean a great deal to us and would contribute to the success of this important initiative," said Dan Conn, chair of Minot State's Education and Inclusive Services. "We deeply appreciate the community's support."

The schedule will commence with the MSU Land Acknowledgement statement, setting the tone for acknowledging and honoring the Indigenous peoples of this land. There will be a public explanation of Plum River Native Prairie, including timelines, why we are using the no-till method, what to expect, and ways to get involved. There will also be representatives from various organizations such as the Ward County Conservation District, Turtle Mountain Community Schools, MHA Nation, Audubon Great Plains, and the NDSU Horticulture Extension agent for Ward County in attendance, and we will publicly recognize their support and involvement.

The aim is to infuse the event with cultural significance, featuring drum songs and the presentation of red and green star quilts to elders. Ruth Plenty Sweet Grass She-Kills, Native American Studies Director at Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College, will deliver a keynote address, adding depth and insight to our celebration.

For more information, contact Conn by EMAIL or by phone at 701-858-3267.
