Day of Hope Coming Oct. 7

MaineGeneral Health's Day of Hope Celebration and Fundraiser to Take Place Oct. 7, 2023

MaineGeneral Health's annual Day of Hope will take place Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.

The event is a day-long celebration with fun and educational activities for the whole family, especially geared toward cancer survivors and those who support them. There is an inspirational opening ceremony, health screenings, and the annual Walk for Hope to fundraise for the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care (HACCC). The goal is to raise $175,000, with all proceeds staying local to support patients and cancer care services.

For the second year in a row, the Day of Hope is being held at the Augusta Civic Center. This location enables participants to spread out safely indoors as well as outdoors. Activities are located throughout the civic center and the Walk for Hope takes walkers through the University of Maine Augusta campus.

The opening ceremony at 10 a.m. is themed Hope is All Around Us. The Walk for Hope follows the ceremony at 10:30 a.m. There is an outdoor Kids Zone, an Education Pavilion, a new Food Pavilion featuring a live cooking demonstration, as well as integrative services to sample such as Reiki, therapeutic massage and yoga. Free health screenings will be offered, including oral, audiology and blood pressure screenings.

While there is a registration fee of $10, survivors/fighters and children younger than 12 years old are free; there also is an option for those for whom the registration fee is a hardship.
