Herstory Fest

Monday 08 April 2024

Guernsey Museums is hosting 'Herstory Fest' this weekend, a two-day event on local Women's history.

Taking place on the Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of April at Guernsey Museum at Candie, visitors are invited to come and discover various aspects of local women's history from the lives of nurses in WWI with The Guernsey Military History Company to the stories of notable Guernsey women through live performances with the Guernsey History in Action Company.

The Museum's Time Warp will be temporarily closed to allow the Discovery Room to be used to host drop-in workshops with artist Olympia McEwan. There will also be lots of special activities available; from handling objects from the museum collection to tailor made trails and activities to enjoy. Movies featuring local women will also be showing in the Frossard Theatre.

Tickets for a selection of free tours on women's history hosted by Guernsey Arts and Guernsey Museums will also be available via Eventbrite, with more details on the museum website and social media pages.

The Museum will be open 10am - 5pm and entry is free for Discovery Pass holders.

Miffy Lane, Access and Learning Manager, said:

"Although we have been doing the History Fest for many years now, this is the first time it's being hosted at Guernsey Museum at Candie, and we are particularly excited to be focusing on our local women's history. With the 'Notable Women of Guernsey' foyer display and Guernsey Arts presenting Linda Martorella's exhibition 'Entanglement' Candie is the perfect back drop for such an exploration and celebration of local women's lives, achievements, experiences, minds, spirit and form."

The Brian White Gallery will be closed from Monday 8 April for the changeover of exhibitions. Amazing Creatures: Treasures from our Natural History Collection will open on the 26th April and will run until 15th September 2024. This is a major exhibition for the Museum and will feature many incredible specimens from around the world.

On current display in the foyer is 'Notable Women of Guernsey', a highlighting the lives and achievements of over 30 remarkable women.
