Ring in Summer with Outdoor Sound Bathing

Posted June 10, 2021

The Camden Public Library welcomes back musical instrument creator and Sound Therapist Jim Doble for a Summer Solstice Sound Bathing event in the Camden Amphitheatre on Saturday, June 19, at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to bring a chair, blanket, or yoga mat to relax upon and listen to the transformative sounds of gongs and chimes. Doble will be joined by Forest Weston, who will be playing the didgeridoo (an ancient and deeply resonant tubular wind instrument) and dord (metal horns of Celtic origin).

'Think of this as a sonic meditation,' says Doble. 'The rich array of sounds and sensations can easily help transport one inward to a place where healing and catharsis can initiate. This cleansing and rejuvenating 'Sound Immersion' is meant to celebrate the beginning of summer, and to help shed some of the funkiness of the past year.'

The event is free with an option to make a donation. A portion of the donations will benefit the Camden Public Library. Doble will also be hosting public sound immersion events in the Amphitheatre on these Mondays at 9:30 am: July 5, July 19, August 2, and August 30. An additional evening program is scheduled for Friday, August 13. Contacting Doble ahead of attending at [email protected] or (207) 785-2212 is encouraged so that you can be notified if the program is canceled.

Doble has been spreading good vibrations around the globe for nearly 30 years. In the last several years, he has collected and made a variety of large gongs and other instruments for use in both his private Sound Therapy practice, as well as playing for group 'Sound Baths.'
