Oxted and Hurst Green CCTV launch

To improve community safety CCTV is now available in Oxted and Hurst Green.

This community initiative, led by Oxted Parish Council, Tandridge District Council, Oxted Business Improvement District (BID/Love Oxted), Limpsfield Parish Council, Hurst Green Community Centre, Master Park and Surrey Police aims to deter and reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in the area.

Representatives from the organisations gathered this morning outside Boots in Station Road East for the official launch of the new CCTV system.

The strategically placed cameras now cover key areas including, Station Road East, Station Road West, Hurst Green and Master Park. Monitoring equipment is safely secured in Tandridge District Council's offices.

Hurst Green Community Centre and Master Park have provided cameras to cover their areas, with plans for more once the new hub in Master Park opens. Limpsfield Parish Council has also joined the project, installing a camera outside the Council Offices. The Royal British Legion Industries has produced the CCTV signs.

Operated by Oxted Parish Council, the system provides Surrey Police with direct access to retrieve images and footage for evidence. They will also be able to view live images from the cameras, enhancing their ability to respond swiftly to incidents.

This collaborative effort shows a proactive approach and commitment to community safety, to create a safer place for residents and visitors.

Oxted Parish Councillor, Peter Giles, who led the project, said: "We are really pleased that following a huge amount of time and effort by a great many people, we have managed to see this project through to launch. It is through all the above communities coming together that this initiative has been possible."

Adrian Pointer, owner of Simply Sports and Board Director of the Oxted BID said: "This is a very welcome initiative and we hope that in conjunction with in-store CCTV, DISC (our secure reporting system) and our Shop Alert group we will be able to restore confidence to businesses owners and assist the police to significantly reduce the amount of both targeted and opportunistic shoplifting in the town."

Councillor Catherine Sayer, Leader of Tandridge District Council, added: "We want to do all we can to ensure residents can visit and shop safely in Oxted and Hurst Green and that businesses flourish and staff are safe."
