SGMC Health presented Michelle Raymond, Patient Care Technician, with the Being Extraordinary Every day (BEE) Award for September. Raymond, who works in the emergency department at SGMC Health Main, was nominated by a nurse for her patient advocacy.
In the nomination, the nursing colleague told the story of how Raymond noticed a young patient in the lobby who appeared very ill. Without hesitation, Michelle advocated for the patient, telling the physician that the patient needed immediate attention. The physician quickly got the patient into a room where she was diagnosed with a serious condition that quickly escalated. Thanks to Raymond's advocacy, the patient received swift care and the intensive treatment needed.
"Michelle's actions and advocacy played a key role in ensuring this patient received timely and appropriate care, preventing what could have been a much worse outcome," the nominating nurse stated. "Her compassion, clinical instincts, and leadership are just some of the reasons she deserves the BEE Award."
The BEE Award is presented monthly and recognizes staff members who support the role of a nurse, which includes patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants. Nomination criteria include compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills and knowledge.
