BMI Congratulates its 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductees

After a two-year hiatus, the in-person induction ceremony of the Songwriters Hall of Fame returned to Manhattan's Marriott Marquis hotel, last Thursday, to formally welcome another class of legendary songwriters into the esteemed organization. BMI songwriters inducted this year included Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, William "Mickey" Stevenson and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. The prestigious Hal David Starlight Award, meanwhile, was presented to BMI rapper/songwriter Lil Nas X.

It was a multifaceted celebration with honorees accepting their accolades and special tribute performances of some of those songwriters' biggest hits. In honor of the Eurythmics' induction, singer/songwriter St. Vincent performed a stunning version of their classic "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)." Following their acceptance, Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox brought the house down with a soaring rendition of "Here Comes the Rain Again." For William "Mickey" Stevenson's induction, Smokey Robinson delivered a smooth rendition of "Baby Loves Me," while Stevenson himself assumed the mic to revisit his signature classic, "Dancing in the Streets." To celebrate the music of Chad Hugo, Jon Batiste shook up the room with performances of "I Need You" and "Milkshake" before bringing Usher out for an exciting version of "U Don't Have to Call."
