Contraband cigarettes seized in Campbellton region
26 May 2023FREDERICTON (GNB) - Peace officers from the Department of Justice and Public Safety recently seized more than 38,000 contraband cigarettes in the Campbellton area.
Between May 16-18, a 70-year-old woman from Trudel, a 35-year-old man from Canterbury, a 51-year-old man from Bathurst and a 57-year-old woman from Edmundston (Saint-Basile area) were charged. They will appear in court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.
The tobacco seized has a provincial tax value of $9,709 and a federal excise tax value of $6,023.
Residents are encouraged to report the trafficking of contraband tobacco, or any other criminal matter, to law enforcement. Information can be shared with the Department of Justice and Public Safety by calling 1-877-826-2122 or it can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
