Trout to Be Stocked at Ada Hayden on Oct. 28

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will stock Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake with approximately 2,000 rainbow trout around noon on Friday, Oct. 28. The trout stocking will take place near the boat ramp on the north side of the lake. The trout will range in length from 10 to 12 inches.

The goal of the stocking is to provide opportunities for individuals to catch trout who may not have the opportunity to travel to northeast Iowa to discover trout fishing. This is the tenth year the Iowa DNR has released trout into Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake. Urban trout stockings typically occur between October and early April. Cool weather stockings provide easy access trout fishing opportunities in areas that cannot support trout during summer months. This popular program is supported by the sales of the trout fee.

Anglers need a valid fishing license and pay the trout fee to fish for or possess trout. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10. Children ages 15 or younger can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, but they must limit their catch to one daily limit. More information regarding State of Iowa fishing regulations is available at www.iowadnr.gov

The Parks and Recreation Department manages 38 parks and offers approximately 180 athletic, aquatic, instructional, and wellness programs. Indoor programs are offered year-round at the Community Center and Ames/ISU Ice Arena. For more information, go to www.amesparkrec.org or call the Community Center at 515.239.5350.
