Highlights:

  • The Lewiston Read!You see it everywhere you go. Your friends can't stop talking about it, and even your teacher is reading it. You've got to get your hands on this book! This May, join our city-wide initiative - THE LEWISTON READ! Let's come together through reading, where everyone in the community reads the same book-you, your teacher, local firefighters, your friends, the Mayor, your dentist -everyone! This year's book choice is Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott. Be on the lookout for book trivia, special Take & Make kits, and photo challenges!
  • Great Falls Forum with Cynthia McFadden: The 2020-2021 season of the Great Falls Forum concludes on Thursday, May 20th, featuring Cynthia McFadden, Senior Legal and Investigative Correspondent for NBC News, on the topic 'From Maine to Madagascar (and lots of places in-between).' The program will take place from 12 - 1 PM virtually via Zoom and streamed to the Lewiston Public Library Facebook page. Register here to attend.
  • May Take & Make Kits: This Month's Take & Make Kit is in full bloom with May flowers! Including a leaf maze, leaf counting printable, parts of a plant coloring sheet, tissue paper flowers craft activity, and fun butterfly and bug shapes! Our Take & Make kits are designed especially for kids ages 3-6 who are working on fine motor skills, scissor skills, ABC's, 123's, shapes, colors, and more! You can pick up a kit when you schedule a browsing appointment in the Children's Department or via LPL To Go. No library card required.   • Book Chat - Unique & Experimental: Join LPL staff for a conversation about what we're reading, watching, and listening to on Facebook Live. Make suggestions, share your thoughts, find resources, and get personalized recommendations from our librarians! In our last book chat, we talked about some of our favorite works of unique & experimental fiction. You can watch last week's recorded broadcast and follow along with the list of titles we mentioned.
  • Art Walk Window Display from Purple Bean Bindery : The Library has once again partnered with LA Arts to bring a new form of Art Walk to the community. This year, we are featuring art work in our Lisbon St windows which are located near the entrance to the building. From April 15th - June 15th, local artist Anna Low will have a display of her artist books available for viewing. These beautiful and unique creations can be seen from the street anytime or up close and personal during one of our browsing blocks throughout the week. Each one is different and tells its own story in a distinctive format.
  • Maine State Park Passes: The Children's Department now has Maine State Park Passes! Did you know you can borrow a Maine State Park Pass from LPL? One pass has a 24-hour checkout time and provides a free pass for one carload into any Maine State Park. Browsing is Back!LPL is once again allow inside browsing of the 1st and 2nd floors during specific hours, including Saturdays.

Children's Room Appointments:The Lewiston Public Library Children's Department has appointments daily.

LPL To Go is still available! Although we are now open for browsing at certain times of day, LPL To Go is still available for hold pick-up. Simply call the Lending desk at (207) 513-3134 when you arrive and staff will check out your items and meet you at the Pine Street door.
