How can recycling cell phones help forests recover from wildfires

Every year we see the destruction and devastation caused by the increasing number of wildfires. Due to increasingly frequent and severe periods of heat and drought, as well as plenty of fuel on the forest floors, many of these fires are burning out of control and turning into megafires.

In 2023, Canada experienced record-setting megafires. While the total wildfire count was not unusual, the size of the area burned by fires was. It is estimated that land roughly the size of North Dakota was burned in Canada throughout the 2023 fire season. Smoke spread across parts of North America and the Atlantic Ocean, causing hazy skies and poor air quality for millions of people. Similar destruction was seen in the United States, with 2.7 million acres being burned. Not only were countless trees lost, the intense heat caused by these fires destroyed both mature trees and viable seed deposits, hindering the forests' natural ability to regrow.

Trees are vital for the health and future of our planet. e-Cycle is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundationand working to restore these forest ecosystems. Every e-Cycle client has the ability to choose whether or not they would like to use the funds generated from recycling their used, mobile devices to make a tax-deductible donation to the Arbor Day Foundation. Seven flexible options have been created, which allow for the choice of how often and how much will be donated. Every dollar donated helps support the planting of one tree.
