Population growth still continued in Kuopio in 2022

Population growth of Kuopio City still continued in 2022. According to statistics authority Tilastokeskus Kuopio`s official population 31.12.2022 was 122 590 residents, which means 0,9 percent grow since previous year. A year before the population was 121 543. In population measure Kuopio is the 8th biggest city in Finland.

Natural population change continued in 2022 as negative (-272), because the mortality rate was the biggest in history and analogously the amount of born children was down below. Only in 2019 were even less born children. However, the total amount of population growed to 1 047 residents, by relocation between municipalities (+769) and immigration (+557).

Statistics authority Tilastokeskus also informed about the unemployment situation in Kuopio. In December unemployment grade was 10,5 %, about 0,2% less than a year before. There were 6 037 unemployed residents and634 of them were layed off. There were1 437 open working places, 869 less than a year before. Unemployment grade in Kuopio is small comparing to other cities of the same size.
