University of New Mexico’s College of Arts & Sciences seeks proposals for new initiatives

The University of New Mexico's College of Arts & Sciences has opened the competitive application process for proposals to establish new initiatives aligned with the University's strategic plan, UNM 2040: Opportunity Defined, to enhance its strengths and shared goals and to build upon the College's tradition of collaboration and leadership.

The initiatives include WeR1 College of Arts & Sciences, Advancing Inclusive Excellence, Leaders in Student Success and a Staff Professional Development Program. A brief description of each is listed below.

"The College of Arts & Sciences is unique in the University in terms of our breadth of expertise and the significance of our instructional mission," said College of Arts & Sciences Dean Jennifer Malat. "We seek proposals to work across disciplines to create a stronger college and to publicly demonstrate what we can achieve together. I encourage established and emerging leaders to submit an application or proposal."

WeR1 College of Arts & Sciences
The WeR1 College of Arts & Sciences initiative is designed to raise the visibility of the College and showcase its interdisciplinary expertise on a specific topic. Examples of activities include-but are not limited to-a symposium, workshop, or exhibit. The event should be partially or fully public-facing. The College of Arts & Sciences encompasses diverse disciplines and faculty expertise, spanning theoretical and applied approaches to create opportunities for collaborative work across various academic fields to help foster the generation of new knowledge and the solution of complex problems.

Advancing Inclusive Excellence
The College of Arts & Sciences is committed to creating and maintaining a diverse environment where all identities are fully included. The College invites proposals for the Advancing Inclusive Excellence initiative that will advance efforts toward achieving greater diversity, equity, and inclusion. This initiative is broad in scope, allowing for a wide range of ideas to initiate or continue key conversations or activities.

Leaders in Student Success
TheLeaders in Student Success initiative calls for those with expertise-through Student Experience Project (SEP) or other experiences-to develop activities that expand the conversation and spark further action in their unit or the College. The College seeks leaders who will advance student success in A&S courses or curriculum by applying evidence-based practices that reduce barriers to students. This initiative is open to a wide range of activities that engage with a group of faculty or staff to advance their ability to better support A&S students.

Staff Professional Development Program
The Staff Professional Development Program is being initiated as a professional development funding pool for staff. The program provides staff access to training workshops, seminars, conferences, and professional development opportunities. The College provides relevant opportunities for professional development to enhance its workforce, helping staff to remain current in a rapidly changing environment. This program will be implemented as an additional resource to those offered through UNM's Education Benefits.

Applications for the Staff Professional Development Program will be accepted every quarter beginning with the first quarter of 2024, with an initial acceptance period set for Jan. 15-31. Proposals for all other initiatives are due Feb. 2, 2024. Questions and inquiries can be directed to A&S Dean Jennifer Malat.
