- The Drexel University softball team (27-16-1, 8-5 CAA) lost its six-run lead late to the Elon Phoenix (25-16-1, 8-5 CAA) on Saturday afternoon as the Phoenix came back to win in eight innings, 13-10. Due to impending darkness, the second game of the Saturday doubleheader was not started. The teams will now play a doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday, April 21 with first pitch set for 11 a.m. from the Drexel Softball Field on Senior Day. A total of 10 home runs were hit in the game between the Dragons and Phoenix. Drexel notched its two home runs in the game in the bottom of the first inning. After a single, hit her 17th home run of the season to make it 2-0. then singled before recorded a two-run homer to break open the game, 4-0. In the second inning, Trivelpiece brought a run home on a sacrifice fly before hit a two-run single to put the Dragons up 7-2 after Elon got two back in the top half of the inning with a two-run homer. A sacrifice fly from in the third along with DiMeo's RBI single put Drexel comfortably ahead, 9-2. The Phoenix got two more back with two solo shots in the top of the fifth, 9-4, the start of a plethora of late home runs.
hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth as an insurance run for the Dragons, 10-4. But the lead and game fell apart in the top of the seventh. Elon tacked on four home runs including a three-run blast to even the score, 10-10. In the eighth, the Phoenix hit their eighth and final home run, a three-run shot, to win 13-10.
NEXT UP Drexel and Elon will complete its three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, April 21 with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. with a senior day ceremony beforehand.
