Wasserman Schultz Applauds VA Expansion of IVF Access for Veterans

Washington, DC - U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, released the following statement on today's announcement by the Department of Veterans Affairs to expand in vitro fertilization (IVF) for Veterans:

"I applaud VA for modernizing outdated fertility treatment rules that end marriage requirements and allow donated gametes for in-vitro fertilization (IVF). This opens these life-changing services to unmarried and eligible Veterans in same-sex marriages and allows them to use donated sperm or eggs for IVF, which is critical for those dealing with service-related injuries and conditions. As someone who struggled to start a family, I know firsthand how vital IVF access can be. I fought for years to make changes in the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill to replace the outdated and discriminatory policy and expand these benefits to veterans equitably. Our servicemembers put their lives on the line for our country and deserve equal access to available resources to start their own families."
