MEMORIAL DAY IN CHULA VISTA

Memorial Day was created as an occasion to honor those who have paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom. It is our opportunity to stop and give thanks for the men and women who have died protecting that freedom.

The City of Chula Vista honors its veterans with a monument in Memorial Park, 373 Park Way, inscribed with the names of Chula Vista residents who have died in war. In addition, over 92 streets in the Sunbow and Otay Ranch communities are named in honor of these veterans. Veterans Park, at 785 East Palomar Street near the Veterans Home of California, Chula Vista, includes a prominent "Walk of Honor" walkway paved with bricks inscribed with the names of veterans.

City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day. Public safety will not be affected by the holiday schedule. Emergency 9-1-1 calls, and police and fire will provide regular daily 24-hour services. Public Works Department services, including streets and sewers, will be available on an emergency-only basis.

Trash removal in the city of Chula Vista will be delayed one day. Those who have collection on Monday will be collected on Tuesday and so forth for the week. The Household Hazardous Waste facility will operate normally and will be open on Saturday, May 28, and Wednesday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
