NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Bonnie Scheele

PROJECT NAME: ADL 422181

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Within the traditional boundaries of the Davis Range near Nome. See the attached map and boundary description.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: State, BLM, and National Park Service (NPS) lands within the traditional boundaries of the Davis Range. See the attached map and boundary description.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW), Northern Regional Land Office (NRO), has received an application from Bonnie Scheele to graze reindeer within the traditional boundaries of the Davis Range on the Seward Peninsula. According to the Grazing Management Plan submitted by the applicant, they currently have 200 reindeer. The applicant would like to grow the herd to approximately 3,000 head during the term of the permit.

This activity was previously permitted under the casefile serialized by DMLW as LAS 13862. DMLW is adjudicating the renewal as a Special Land Use Permit with a term of 10 years and has assigned a new casefile- ADL 422181.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:
Start: December 1, 2023
End: November 30, 2033

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: September 29, 2023

The public is invited to comment on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
