Central Bank of Malta supports the 1st edition of the ANZAC Day Beach Sprints Regatta

During a press conference, held on 25 March 2023 at Marsaxlokk, Central Bank of Malta Governor, Professor Edward Scicluna together with the University of Malta Rector Professor Alfred Vella and Ms Rebekah Caruana, President of the University of Malta Rowing Club, launched 8 new coastal rowing boats for the 1st edition ofthe ANZAC Day Beach Sprints Regatta.

Through its Fund, set up in January 2022, the Central Bank of Malta is supporting this event through a sponsorship used for the purchase of two C2X boats and oars.

These boats will be used for training the Maltese crew and for the Regatta; and shall be also enabling mixed doubles races and mixed ability races, giving an opportunity to under-18 youths to practice a sport that they can continue doing while studying at the University. This, with the aim of removing the notion that sports and education are in competition with each other. This Regatta will be held in Malta every two years, with next year's edition to be held in Australia or in New Zealand.

During the event, Governor Scicluna held that "Through such an investment in the sports sector, the Central Bank of Malta's aim, together with that of the organisers, is to promote sports amongst youths, raise Malta's profile as a destination for coastal rowing, and showcase Malta to an international audience through the participation of mixed gender groups in rowing."
