QS Ranking 2024: 11 subjects from JYU ranked, sport and health sciences 39th

The results of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 have been released. Of the JYU fields, education improved its position and was ranked 76 (78 in 2023). Also sport and health sciences stayed in top 100, in position 39 (31 in 2023). In addition, psychology placed high, staying in the 151-200 range, and also linguistics ranked 151-200 as a new subject on the list.

Other ranked JYU fields in 2024 were communication 201-250 (new) and English language and literature 301-330 (new), sociology 301-350 (251-300 in 2023), physics 401-450 (351-400) as well as mathematical information computer science and information systems 451-500 (401-450). The list also included mathematics 451-500 (401-450) and business and management studies 601-620 (501-550).

In the ranking of broad subjects, the strongest JYU discipline in 2024 was natural sciences 401-450 (359). The position of arts and humanities was 401-450 (382). Social sciences maintained its position 501-550 (501-530).

"Again, the positions of our multidisciplinary university in the prestigious QS Ranking reflect our high quality in both education and research," says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso. "Similar to last year, sport and health sciences and education came out on top, but there were remarkable results in every faculty. It was pleasing to see that this year also saw new entrants to the ranking. Last year business and management studies were on the list for the first time, and this year linguistics got a very good position. Overall, we can once again be proud of our scientific profile, which represents a high international standard in various fields."

QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates universities in 55 distinct disciplines. The ranking is based on the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per paper as well as the productivity and impact of the published work of scientists or scholars and international research cooperation. The weighing of indicators varies between disciplines. This year the ranking included 55 disciplines and 1,561 universities from all over the world.
