We’re launching a new service to better protect customers’ homes from wildfires in Alberta and British Columbia

We're partnering with Wildfire Defense Systems (WDS) to help customers in Alberta and British Columbia benefit from enhanced wildfire protection and peace of mind.

In 2023, Alberta and British Columbia experienced a wildfire season of unprecedented scale. At Intact, we saw first-hand the damage of these natural disasters as we focused on helping our customers get back on track. The impacts on communities where we live and work are only intensifying, and we know we can do more.

Intact exists to help people, businesses and society prosper in good times and be resilient in bad times. The climate is changing, and we see the risks and devastation of extreme weather and natural disasters up close. This partnership with WDS is an example of how Intact is doubling down on building resilient communities and helping communities and our customers adapt to the impacts of wildfires and other severe weather events.

For the 2024 wildfire season, Intact will provide eligible customers in Alberta and British Columbia added protection for their homes and peace of mind when it is needed the most through the Wildfire Defense Systems service - an experienced world leader in wildfire loss prevention and suppression services. The new Wildfire Defense Systems service is a first-of-its-kind residential service in Canada and will automatically rollout as of (date of launch) at no additional cost to eligible home insurance policies.

With this added protection, WDS will deploy field personnel to properties threatened by an active wildfire to provide loss prevention and suppression services to decrease the likelihood of damage or loss due to wildfire to a customer's property. If WDS can service a customer's home, actions could include removing combustible materials around the property, setting up temporary sprinkler systems or covering exterior vents and closing exterior doors, windows and garage doors.

Once the threat of wildfire is gone, WDS would return to the property to place items back in their original location and remove any temporary sprinkler systems or coverings.
