Nearly 700 Adolescents Vaccinated with Pfizer Vaccine Since FDA Approval

SAN ANTONIO (May 17, 2021) - A total of 696 adolescents, ages 12-15, received the Pfizer vaccine at the Alamodome on Friday and Saturday. This comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended the vaccine after the FDA granted it emergency use authorization on May 12 for this age group.
On Friday, May 14, 285 adolescents received the Pfizer vaccine at the Alamodome and 411 were vaccinated on Saturday, May 15. The Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine approved at this time for 12- to 15-year-olds.
'These numbers are quite impressive, and we hope this demand will continue as we work towards our goal of getting more people vaccinated throughout the city,' said Assistant City Manager Dr. Colleen Bridger. 'We've also seen an increase in adults getting vaccinated since the CDC announced vaccinated individuals could choose not to wear a mask, and we'd like to encourage that as well.'

Meanwhile, beginning Monday, May 24, the hours and dates for people to receive a vaccine at the Alamodome drive-thru clinic either through an appointment or walk-in will change to noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays.
Currently, the Alamodome drive-thru clinic schedule is 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
