WATCH: In New Interview, Mark Robinson Says He "Absolutely Would" Sign An Even Stricter Abortion Ban
In a new interview from earlier today with WSOC-TV in Charlotte, Mark Robinson said "we absolutely would, because that's what we pushed for" when asked directly if he would sign a six-week abortion ban into law.
Recently, Robinson was caught on audio telling a supporter that he wants to go further than the state's current 12-week abortion ban, and "push it back as far as we could" to "get down to zero."
Robinson's comments directly contradict what he says in recent ads where he lies to voters about his commitment to undermining abortion access in North Carolina. His confirmation today that he would gladly ban abortion before most women even know they are pregnant matches his past comments on the issue, including that he wants to completely ban abortion "for any reason," claiming abortions only happen because women "weren't responsible enough to keep [their] skirt down," and pledging to keep working to restrict abortion rights, saying, "we got it down to 12 weeks. The next goal is to get it down to six, and then just keep moving from there."
"One of the most consistent aspects of Mark Robinson's campaign for governor is his undying support for further undermining reproductive freedom and rolling back abortion access in North Carolina," said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. "Today, Robinson has made it clear that despite attempts to deceive voters otherwise, he is fully committed to signing an even more extreme abortion ban if elected governor. You have his word."
