The American Constitution Society (ACS) has named second-year law student Ali Fazal '25L as a 2024 Next Generation Leader. Fazal is one of only 34 up-and-coming legal professionals selected for the program.

The Next Generation Leaders program recognizes and supports law school students who have shown exceptional leadership in their work with their ACS student chapters. Fazal has served on the W&L Law ACS Board for two years, first as a 1L rep and then as outreach director. He will serve as vice president of the W&L chapter next year.

"I joined ACS as a 1L because I admired the organization's mission statement of building a robust democracy that vindicates the rights of all its citizens," said Fazal.

Next Generation Leaders are selected through a competitive application process. The selection committee looks for students who demonstrate strong legal skills, a commitment to public service, and a track record of leadership and community engagement. The selected students have access to special programming and resources to ensure successful starts to their careers, and one NGL is appointed to serve a two-year term as a student member of ACS's Board of Directors.

Fazal is from Raleigh, NC and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his 1L summer he was a judicial intern for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In addition to his work with ACS, Fazal is the Vice President of the Middle Eastern South Asian Law Student Association and is an incoming Vice Chair on the Moot Court Board.

Fazal enjoyed participating in Moot Court competitions this past year, winning Runner-Up of the Mock Trial Competition, Finalist of the John W. Davis Appellate Advocacy Competition, and Finalist of the Robert J. Grey, Jr. Negotiations Competition. Fazal received the 2024-2025 Moot Court Advocacy Award for his excellence in oral and written advocacy across all competitions.

If you know a W&L student who has done great, accolade-worthy things, tell us about them! Nominate them for an accolade.
