Welcome Coach Ty Cates

(Vandalia-Butler) Vandalia-Butler City Schools is pleased to announce that it has offered Tyler Cates the head varsity football coach's position at Butler High School. Superintendent Rob O'Leary will recommend that the Board of Education approve Cates as the new coach during the March 23, Regular Board Meeting.

Coach Cates comes to Vandalia-Butler with over 12 years of football coaching experience. Most recently, he served as the head varsity football coach at Covington High School. Other experience includes six years as a junior high and high school basketball coach, three years as a junior high track coach, one year as a junior high wrestling coach, one-year varsity wrestling assistant, and four years as a strength conditioning coach for football.

Cates earned his Bachelor of Arts from Wright State University in 2011 and his Master of Education in 2012.

He was recently named the Division 6 State Coach of the year, making it his second time winning this honor, and in 2019, he was awarded the OHSFCA Milestone Head Coach 50 Wins Award.

We are excited to have Coach Cates join the Aviator family and are confident his leadership and vision will bring success to our student-athletes on the field, in the classroom and, within the community.
