Student artwork from all six Tempe Union High School District schools will be showcased at Tempe Center for the Arts Feb. 23-March 5 as part of the 51st annual "Art Tempe" exhibition.

A total of 109 students created artwork for the exhibition, which includes a variety of media including painting, drawing and ceramics. The work is made possible thanks to the 12 dedicated arts teachers across Corona del Sol, Desert Vista, Marcos de Niza, McClintock, Mountain Pointe and Tempe high schools.

Mingle with the talented student artists while viewing their exceptional work at an opening reception on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 6-7:30 p.m. The exhibition will be on view Feb. 23-March 5. Admission is free. View hours at tempe.gov/ArtTempe.

The exhibition will be held at Tempe Center for the Arts Lakeside room, just steps away from the "Storytellers" exhibition, which is currently on display at the Gallery at TCA. Two professional artists from the "Storytellers" exhibition participated in a school residency program this winter. Artists Wabwila Mugala and Jan Talmadge Davids visited all six participating high schools to talk about their art careers and creative processes, as well as lead a workshop with advanced level classes.

The Art Tempe exhibition, with its collaboration between Tempe Community Arts, professional artists and Tempe Center for the Arts, serves as an inspiration to young students that the arts are thriving in Tempe.

"The City of Tempe is thrilled to support the next generation of artists through this engaging program," said Vice Mayor Jennifer Adams. "I am blown away by the powerful art pieces these students have created, and I'm so inspired that we get to come together as a community to show our support and pride in these Tempe students."

"We are immensely proud of all the work of our students and teachers put into this stunning display of creativity and talent," said Tempe Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Stacia Wilson. "It's moving to see the wide variety of mediums and perspectives showcased, and we hope this exhibition will encourage the next generation of artists as they continue their journeys in the Valley and beyond."

"We are thrilled to see and celebrate the creativity that's happening right here in our backyards," said Tempe City Councilmember and Tempe Union High School District Governing Board member Berdetta Hodge. "It's exciting to see this student work bolstered by the support of professional artists working in our community in such a beautiful venue like Tempe Center for the Arts."
