Permit for Commercial Recreation on Baranof Lake Trail

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Alaska Luxury Tours


GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The subject lands are located at Baranof, and Warm Springs Bay, which is located on the east side of Baranof Island, approximately 20 miles east of Sitka.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: All state uplands within 30 feet each side of the centerline of the existing Baranof Lake Trail, said lands lying within Section 24, T 55 S, R 66 E, CRM

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Alaska Luxury Tours (applicant) is requesting a 5-year land use permit to use the Baranof Lake Trail for commercial recreation hiking. This permit would authorize guided walking tours of state uplands within 30 feet on either side of the existing Baranof Lake Trail. Any waste generated by the applicant will be packed out upon departure. The applicant is proposing to operate seasonally between the months of May through September.

Start: July 1, 2024
End: June 30, 2029


The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southeast Regional Land Office, 400 Willoughby Avenue/PO Box 111020, Juneau, AK 99811-1020 on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
