EXECUTION CARRIED OUT FOR KENNETH EUGENE SMITH

ATMORE, Alabama - The execution of Alabama death row inmate Kenneth Eugene Smith was carried out by nitrogen hypoxia on January 25, 2024, at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama. He was pronounced deceased by a physician at 8:25 p.m.
On January 24, 2024, Smith had 9 visitors and 1 phone call. On January 25, 2024, he again had 9 visitors, 1 phone call, accepted his breakfast tray, and a had a final meal of steak, hashbrowns, and eggs.

A brief press conference followed the execution at the Media Center with remarks from Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Q. Hamm. During the press conference, several witnesses for the victim made a statement.

Smith was executed for the 1988 capital murder of Elizabeth Dorlene Sennett in Colbert County.

Smith's remains will be released to the Escambia County Coroner and taken to the Mobile Lab of the Department of Forensic Sciences for a postmortem examination.
